Worked trail: proposed 20% reduction, then a separately recorded sale
Fictional item C-014 has an original asking price of USD 100. The written example terms require approval for a reduction and give the consignor 60% of the final item selling amount, with no additional deductions in this example. The proposed reduction is 20% of the original USD 100, or USD 20, giving a proposed price of USD 80.
| State | Price or amount | Reference | What it proves |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original | USD 100 asking | Item C-014; agreement EX-01 | Initial asking price only |
| Proposed | USD 80; 20% off original | Request M-01 | A request, not authority |
| Approved/effective | USD 80 from example date | Verified approval M-01-A | Authorization within its stated scope |
| Actual sale | USD 80 item amount | Separate sale S-01 | Sale amount; payment/payout still separate |
| Split calculation | Owner USD 48; shop USD 32 | 60% / 40% of USD 80 | Arithmetic under fictional terms |
USD 80 × 0.60 = USD 48 and USD 80 − USD 48 = USD 32. Do not compute the owner share from the old USD 100 when these example terms specify the final USD 80. Conversely, do not assume final-price commission if your actual agreement specifies something else.
A second 10% reduction from the already reduced USD 80 would be USD 8, producing USD 72. It is not a total 30% reduction from USD 100, which would be USD 70. Record both the percentage and its base so a later reviewer can reproduce the change.
Handle missing approval, extra discounts and payout status explicitly
If approval is still missing at the proposed effective date, leave the status pending. Do not backdate approval to make the timeline look complete. If the item sells at a different amount, record the actual sale and investigate the mismatch instead of silently rewriting the proposal to match it.
For a coupon, bundle or fee, identify which item amount and deduction the agreement uses. A receipt total that includes tax or other items is not automatically the commission basis. The example above excludes those complications deliberately; resolve the actual treatment before calculating a real payable amount.
Keep calculated amount due apart from payment completed. A sales report may show a liability without a completed payout. Preserve payment date/reference only when established. The free worksheet records a change trail; it does not accept terms, send an approval request, collect money or execute a payout.
ConsignCue records items and sales; keep authorization evidence separately
ConsignCue’s current listing includes consignor payout rates/contact notes, item price/SKU/status/notes, a sold-item payout calculator, cash-drawer count and daily sales reports. Premium adds unlimited consignors/items, advanced payout workflows, full report history and export-ready summaries. The public description does not list every free allowance.
The current calculation subtracts the entered sale discount from sale price before applying the consignor rate. Review those input labels carefully: do not enter an already reduced final amount and subtract the same markdown again. For the USD 80 final-price example, ensure the resulting basis is USD 80, not USD 60.
No automatic approval collection, contract interpretation or immutable markdown audit is established. Keep agreement and authorization references in your secure records and use notes only for an appropriate pointer. We publish ConsignCue. Start with the parent intake-to-payout guide if the underlying item/owner relationship is not yet recorded; use this guide for the separate price-change decision.

Questions answered
Can an overdue item be marked down automatically?
Only the actual agreement and authority determine what is permitted. This worksheet does not establish permission.
Is 20% then 10% the same as 30% off?
No. Applied successively to USD 100, the prices are USD 80 then USD 72. A single 30% reduction would give USD 70.
Does the payout calculation mean the owner was paid?
No. Calculation, money received from the customer and completed consignor payout are separate records.
