Separate preference, feasibility and product safety
“Do I like this tone?”, “Can my hair reach it?” and “Is this product appropriate?” are different questions. An image can help express a preference. It does not answer the other questions simply because the result looks convincing. Do not turn a color selected in an app into a formula.
Compare the original with the generated version. Look for changes beyond color: apparent shine, texture, density, skin tone or light. Write which feature you actually like. A professional can discuss a specific preference more usefully than a request to reproduce every generated detail.
Record earlier coloring or treatments with dates when known. Mark uncertain history as uncertain; a natural-looking photo does not prove untreated hair. Keep the image reference separate from your account of what physically happened.
Worked reference: warm copper, uncertain previous dye
A fictional person likes a warm copper preview made from a dim indoor selfie. Roots and lengths look different in the original, and previous dye details are unclear. That is enough to prepare questions, not enough to promise an outcome.
| Observation | Useful meaning | Still unknown | Question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Copper tone preferred | Visual preference | Achievable shade | What range is realistic after assessment? |
| Generated lengths glossy | Image appearance | Actual condition | What do you observe in person? |
| Roots differ from lengths | Visible difference in this photo | History and process | Which history details matter? |
| Shade differs on screens | Display-dependent appearance | Physical shade match | Can we compare a suitable physical reference? |
Label each preview with its source photo and date. If another photo uses different light, retain that fact. Do not label two generated images a salon before-and-after when no coloring took place.
Record the professional’s assessment separately from your preference. If the proposed result differs from the image, ask what is feasible, what remains uncertain and what maintenance would involve. This worksheet supplies no chemicals, strengths, mixing ratios or processing times.
A preview does not perform a physical test
FDA hair-dye guidance emphasizes following package directions and warnings, patch testing and not mixing different dye products. Follow the actual instructions and appropriate professional advice. A visual preview performs none of these checks and cannot establish absence of allergy risk or damage.
Do not use an attractive image to override a product precaution or professional assessment. A strand-related color discussion and a product sensitivity precaution address different questions; a digital image substitutes for neither.
Bring the original, labeled preview and honest history to the appointment. Preserve a separate record of what was actually done afterward. That prevents a generated reference from being mistaken for evidence of a real treatment or result.
SilkStyler provides a visual reference within its scope
SilkStyler’s current listing describes uploading a selfie, selecting a color/style and comparing AI try-on results. It does not establish calibrated physical color matching, dye-history analysis or guaranteed salon reproduction. Its brief description does not enumerate every free and paid allowance; check the current installed terms.
We publish SilkStyler. Read current privacy information and the in-app consent before optional photo processing. The CSV is independent, not an app import or evidence that a salon approved a process.
The linked consultation checklist prepares the broader appointment. This page addresses the narrower gap between an image preference and the real-world evidence still needed.
If the method fits your task, explore SilkStyler’s listed features on an iPhone. Check current features and plans before downloading.

Use the CSV in Numbers, Excel or a spreadsheet editor. Two fictional references and a blank row; no formula, safety approval or promised physical result. Replace them with your own observations. The CSV is separate from the app and no email is required.
Questions answered
Can the image supply a dye formula?
No. It does not establish a formula, processing plan or exact achievable shade.
Does realism prove safety?
No. A generated picture does not test the hair or product and cannot rule out a reaction.
What should I bring?
The labeled preview, original photo, supported treatment history and unresolved questions.
