Keep currency, unit and precision attached to the numbers
A total without a currency or a quantity without a unit is difficult to verify. Start with the agreed work, the rate’s currency and unit, each quantity, and any applicable tax/discount terms. A value written as 4.67 per hour differs from 4.67 per item. Do not repair a mismatch by changing only the symbol beside the total.
This guide uses a fictional USD example with two displayed decimal places, no tax and no discount. Decimal rounding is defined here as nearest cent with an exact half-cent rounded upward. That is an illustrative arithmetic convention, not a universal accounting, tax or cash-rounding rule. Follow the applicable contractual and jurisdiction-specific requirements for a real invoice.
Microsoft’s Business Central documentation distinguishes invoice, amount and unit-amount rounding and notes that local rules can differ. It is evidence that rounding policy needs configuration in that product, not evidence that Involea implements the same controls.
Three half-hour lines can expose a one-cent difference
Each of three fictional tasks takes 0.5 hour at USD 4.67 per hour. Each exact decimal line is 0.5 × 4.67 = 2.335. Under the declared convention, a separately rounded line displays USD 2.34.
| Route | Exact calculation | Displayed result |
|---|---|---|
| Round each of three lines | 2.335 → 2.34, repeated three times | 2.34 + 2.34 + 2.34 = USD 7.02 |
| Sum first, round once | 2.335 + 2.335 + 2.335 = 7.005 | USD 7.01 |
| Difference | 7.02 − 7.01 | USD 0.01 to explain before sending |
This is not a reason to hide a fee or change the agreed rate. It is a reason to identify the billing convention before issue and make the visible document internally understandable. If the PDF shows three lines of 2.34 and a subtotal of 7.01 without an explanation, pause and resolve it through an appropriate documented method.
The CSV records both routes as illustrative values. It is not a calculator or tax template. Do not assume your spreadsheet’s default tie rule or binary number representation matches the convention declared here; check the actual formula and preview.
Reconcile the actual artifact, not only the editor fields
Open the PDF preview you intend to send. Check the currency code, quantity precision, unit rates, displayed lines, subtotal and final amount. Recalculate with the same stated convention. If there is tax or a discount, check its basis and order separately; this no-tax example does not establish a compliant tax-rounding method.
A currency setting is not evidence of an exchange transaction. If a real invoice involves conversion, record the agreed source currency, destination currency, exchange rate/source/date and any applicable requirements. Involea foreign-exchange conversion was not verified, so do not present a changed default currency as a converted payment amount.
Before sending, use the invoice checklist for the wider document details. If a mistake is found after issue, follow the appropriate correction process; the invoice correction guide covers that later question. Do not silently overwrite a sent artifact and pretend it was the original.
Involea previews calculations; a compliance guarantee is not implied
The current Involea listing describes line items, quantities, prices, tax, discounts, currency settings, invoice/estimate drafts and PDF preview. PDF preview is listed for free users; export is Premium. Current source calculates quantity times unit price and totals, but a declared jurisdiction-specific rounding policy, decimal arithmetic guarantee or automatic reconciliation adjustment was not established.
Use the preview and your independent check to identify any discrepancy. Do not invent an automatic adjustment feature or assume that a PDF total alone certifies compliance. AI/OCR-created drafts also need checking against the actual agreement and source amounts.
The useful result is a document whose currency, work and arithmetic you can explain. Involea is presented as a simple invoice workflow, not a full accounting system. Check current purchase terms before export; this guide promises neither payment collection nor a tax outcome.

Use the CSV in Numbers, Excel or a spreadsheet editor. The example declares its own decimal convention and is not tax, forex or cash-rounding guidance. Replace them with your own observations. The CSV is separate from the app and no email is required.
Questions answered
Why can the displayed lines differ from the subtotal?
Rounding individual lines and rounding an unrounded aggregate can produce different results. Identify the actual calculation stage and convention before sending.
Does selecting USD convert another currency into dollars?
A currency label or default setting does not establish conversion. Verify any actual conversion method, rate and applicable requirements separately.
Is the example a tax-rounding rule?
No. It deliberately has no tax or discount and declares its own arithmetic convention for illustration. Real requirements can differ.
