Turn a job description into truthful resume evidence

By Smart Automation SRL6 min read

Read the job posting for two or three core requirements, then pair each with experience you can genuinely explain in an interview. Write the task, your actual contribution and the result you can verify. If you lack a requirement, mark it as a gap rather than borrowing a keyword you cannot support. The matrix below turns a vague draft into a specific, truthful resume bullet without promising an ATS score or interview.

We publish JobCue. This guide provides a usable method without the app. Product features and limits were checked against the current US App Store listing on October 9, 2026. Examples are illustrative.

Pull requirements from the actual posting

Start with the employer’s language, not a generic list of “power words.” Highlight required skills, recurring tasks and context. New York State Department of Labor’s resume guidance recommends emphasizing accomplishments relevant to the job goal and using terms from the posting where they honestly describe your work. Pick the most important two or three requirements first so the exercise stays usable.

Separate evidence from aspiration. “Can use spreadsheets to reconcile orders” is an experience claim; “interested in learning inventory software” is a learning goal. Do not present the second as a past accomplishment. Keep a private copy of the posting date and version because roles can change.

Make every bullet traceable to evidence

Consider an illustrative operations role that asks for inventory reconciliation. A weak draft says “responsible for inventory.” A stronger factual draft, if true, could say “Reconciled weekly stock counts against the order log and flagged discrepancies for the supervisor.” The second names an action and context, without inventing a percentage improvement. Add a number only if you have a real record or a defensible estimate you can explain.

These are invented examples, not a model resume to copy. Remove employer-confidential details and customer names. A good line is one you can defend with a concrete story, reference or work sample, subject to confidentiality rules.

Revise for the reader, then audit for truth

Put the strongest relevant evidence where a recruiter can find it quickly. Use plain wording, consistent job titles and dates, and a readable format. New York State Department of Labor offers resume guidance and advises tailoring experience to the target role. Avoid loading invisible keywords or repeating the posting verbatim; that makes the document less informative and may misrepresent your background.

Before sending, read every claim aloud. Can you explain the task, your role, the outcome and any number? If not, soften or remove it. Ask someone else to review grammar and clarity. Keep a separate version for each substantially different role so edits do not accidentally change a factual date or credential.

When JobCue can help

JobCue’s current US App Store listing describes a short setup flow, target role and job-description input, editable resume sections, wording suggestions, a comparison against the posting and a cover-letter draft. It says up to three sections are free; JobCue Pro unlocks polished export and unlimited sections. When an AI action runs, the relevant resume text, target role and job-description text are sent through the developer gateway to a third-party AI service for processing; read the current privacy details before choosing to send personal data. AI suggestions are drafting support and need human review. The listing does not promise ATS acceptance, recruiter replies or interviews.

The worksheet is useful before opening the app because it separates proven facts from gaps. Use the app to organize and edit drafts, then verify each statement and check the current paid export terms. Do not paste confidential employer or customer information into a third-party service unless you are authorized to share it.

If the method fits your task, JobCue can keep the steps together on an iPhone. Check current features and plans before downloading.

Use the CSV in Numbers, Excel or a spreadsheet editor. The first row is an invented applicant and role, not a real achievement. Replace it with your own observations. The CSV is separate from the app and no email is required.

Questions answered

Should I copy keywords from the job posting?

Use the employer’s terms only where they accurately describe your experience. Never claim software, credentials or results you do not have.

What if I have no number for an accomplishment?

Write the concrete task and context without inventing a percentage or volume. Add a figure later only when you can verify it.

Will a resume app guarantee ATS acceptance?

No. The listing offers drafting and comparison support, not a guaranteed screening result or interview.
